About the Speakers

Shellye ArchambeauShellye Archambeau,
CEO, MetricStream

CEO of MetricStream, Shellye Archambeau is responsible for running all facets of the business. MetricStream sells quality and compliance software to enable enterprises to comply with rules, regulations and mandates, such as FDA regulations and Sarbanes-Oxley. MetricStream has been recognized for growth and innovation over the years and was recently awarded the highly acclaimed international business award, the "Stevie", for innovative business model in 2007 in Munich, Germany.

Prior to joining MetricStream, Shellye was Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President of Sales for Loudcloud, Inc [renamed Opsware], responsible for all global sales and marketing activities. At Loudcloud she led the transformation into an enterprise-focused company while growing sales 50% year over year. Previously, she served as Chief Marketing Officer of NorthPoint Communications, where she led the design and implementation of all sales and marketing strategies. Shellye also served as president of Blockbuster, Inc.'s e-commerce division and was recognized by Internet World as one of the Top 25 'Click and Mortar' executives in the country in June of 2000. Shellye spent the prior 15 years at IBM, holding several domestic and international executive positions.

Shellye is an author and sought after speaker on the topics of compliance, marketing, and leadership. She has been featured or quoted in numerous business publications including BusinessWeek, InformationWeek and the San Jose Business Journal. She is co-author of "Marketing That Works" and she guest lectures at The Wharton School West and the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Shellye Archambeau currently serves on the board of directors for Arbitron, Inc.[NYSE: ARB], the Silicon Valley Leadership Group and The Forum for Women Entrepreneurs and Executives. She is also a member of the Trustees Council of Penn Women at the University of Pennsylvania and the Information Technology Senior Management Forum. She earned a B.S. degree at the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business.

 

Kevin BarryKevin Barry,
General Partner, Schweichler Price & Partners

Kevin Barry joined Schweichler Price & Partners as a Managing Partner in 2004. As a previous Partner at Pierce & Crow, Kevin brings with him 12 years of retained executive search experience within the technology sector. Kevin played a major role in the success and growth of Pierce & Crow, a highly regarded Bay Area based technology search firm, where he spent close to a decade delivering leading executive talent to many notable venture backed startups as well as publicly traded companies within a variety of technology segments. Break out industry leaders such as Check Point Software Technologies, Cerent (Cisco) and Tivoli (IBM) were all clients of the firm.

With a focus on executing searches for CEOs, GMs and Vice President level management, Kevin's practice serves both the early stage, venture backed startup as well as multi-billion dollar, publicly traded companies. Recent clients of note have included Imperva, NevenVision (Google), JasperSoft, nCircle Network Security, Interface 21, SolFocus and eBay. With a dedication to making an impact on game changing companies in the burgeoning areas of open source, SaaS, internet and energy, Kevin has worked with leading investors in technology such as NEA, Benchmark Capital and Kleiner Perkins. His ability to consistently execute is based on discipline, preparation, internal drive and the agility to navigate through complex and challenging recruiting situations.

Kevin began his career in technology in the early 1990's in enterprise software sales and marketing at the DAVID Corporation, an enterprise class provider of Risk Management Software that served the F500 and government markets. Born and raised in Silicon Valley, Kevin received a B.A. from Georgetown University and now resides in Marin County with his wife and two sons. Outside of work and a busy family life, Kevin is an accomplished and competitive endurance athlete with numerous Ironman triathlon finishes to date and is continually training for the next challenge ahead.

 

Frédéric Lucas-Conwell Frédéric Lucas-Conwell,
Founder and President, Growth Resources, Inc.

Frederic Lucas-Conwell is founder and President of Growth Resources, Inc.. He is an accomplished organizational development consultant and serial entrepreneur who over the past 12 years has achieved an impressive track record implementing Predictive Index in hundreds of companies including start-ups, growth companies, and Fortune 500s.

Frederic began his career 20 years ago in France and Japan at MDTVision, now a division of IBM. In 1989 he bootstraped a CAD/CAM company that launched innovative simulation software worldwide and served as a VAR for HP, Sun Microsystems, and IBM. The company developed quickly, attracted VC investments, and was successfully sold in 1998.

Transitioning to organizational and management consulting, Frederic built the French market for PI Worldwide from a start-up. His consulting activities have led him to work with companies on five continents and in 32 countries. During the Internet bubble, he conducted the first study of the characteristics of leading French high-tech entrepreneurs. He conducted another innovative study on the technology evangelists in the Silicon Valley and on VC-Backed CEOs.

Coupled with solid expertise in management, organization and human resources, Frederic Lucas-Conwell holds a doctoral degree in Organizational Behavior, a master’s degree in General Economic Policy and a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.

 

Jim LussierJim Lussier,
General Partner, Norwest Venture Partners

Jim focuses on investments in software, services and consumer/internet companies. He is a member of the board of directors of CollabNet, DoubleFusion, G2 Switchworks, M-Factor, Social.FM, and Starcite. Jim was formerly a member of the board of directors of Acta Technology (acquired by Business Objects) and Escalate (acquired by GERS). He has worked closely with a number of NVP portfolio companies including Annuncio (acquired by Peoplesoft), Arbortext (acquired by PTC), and Primus Knowledge Solutions (acquired by Art Technology).

Prior to joining NVP, Jim was Vice President and General Manager of the direct e-commerce solutions division of Beyond.com Corporation, a leading online software and services provider to businesses, government agencies and individuals. Jim's division, which he created, provided outsourced e-business services to a variety of partners including Autodesk, Compaq, Hewlett Packard, Network Associates, Symantec, and 3Com. Earlier Jim served Beyond.com Corporation as vice president of operations, responsible for category management, transaction processing, demand fulfillment, and customer service.

Prior to Beyond.com Corporation, Jim managed Accenture's (formerly Andersen Consulting) electronics and high technology strategy practice for North America and was a member of the firm's e-commerce core group. While at Accenture, Jim worked with senior executives to develop and implement winning business and operations plans for emerging technology companies in areas including software, Internet and online services, computers, communications equipment, and wireless broadband services. Jim has also held executive positions at Booz Allen & Hamilton and Metaphor Computer Systems, which became a subsidiary of IBM.

Jim holds a bachelor of science in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Stanford University's Graduate School of Business.

 

George NorthupGeorge Northup,
President & CEO, Auction Drop Inc.

George Northup is President and CEO of AuctionDrop, Inc., ranked the 3rd fastest growing private company in Silicon Valley in the San Jose Business Journal "Fast 50." AuctionDrop was also ranked 12th in the Deloitte & Touche "Tech Fast 50 Silicon Valley Rising Stars."

George has more than 25 years of in-depth operating experience in building internet and software companies into durable and profitable entities. His earlier successes include: LiveCapital, a financial software analytics company that was sold to D & B and Online Resources, a pioneering online banking company (NASDAQ: ORCC, Russell 2000 company) which he took public in 1999. He has held senior executive positions at a number of companies including, most recently, LiveCapital Inc., where he served as Senior Vice President and CFO. He also served as Executive Vice President and CFO for Online Resources Corporation, Inc., a provider of online banking services He has raised more than $400 million through IPO's and venture financing.

George started his career as a CPA at Deloitte & Touche and he holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Duke University, from where he graduated with cum laude honors. George was recruited from the East coast and moved to Silicon Valley with his family in 2005. He will share his experience of working with the founder team and the VCs to take the company to the next stage. He will also speak about Vistage International, of which he is a member.

 

Mark RadcliffeMark Radcliffe,
Partner, DLA Piper

Mark Radcliffe has been practicing in Silicon Valley for over 25 years. His practice is a combination of corporate securities and intellectual property licensing. He currently works with over 40 startups in markets ranging from enterprise software to web 2.0 to semiconductor to medical devices. He assists his startup clients in developing their financing strategies and introduces them to his network of angels and venture capitalists. And he develops and implements intellectual property strategies for companies from startups to Fortune 500. He also represents investors ranging from traditional venture capitalist to corporate investors. He recently finished three years as the Chair of the Technology and Sourcing Practice of the firm.

Keith RaffelKeith Raffel,
Founder and Ex-CEO of UpShot, Novelist and Entrepreneur

Keith Raffel founded UpShot in 1996. One of the first Software as a Service (SaaS) applications, the company's CRM offering won numerous awards including Enterprise Outlook's Investors' Choice and Microsoft's Best Internet Solution. Customers included Comerica Bank, Hewlett Packard, General Electric, Johnson & Johnson and Xerox. Siebel purchased UpShot in November 2003. Keith stayed on with Siebel as group vice president for OnDemand Solutions and helped with the transition of Siebel to Oracle.

What do you do after having successfully started and sold a company? Keith left Oracle in early 2007 to spend more time on writing fiction. His novel, Dot Dead: A Silicon Valley Mystery, was deemed "the most impressive mystery debut of the year" by Bookreporter.com. His agent is currently circulating a second book, Two Graves, to publishers. Keith also spends time advising entrepreneurs and speaking to companies about the challenges of SaaS offerings.

 

Geoff RoachKen Matusow,
Business Angel, Keiretsu Forum

Ken Matusow is a member of the Keiretsu Forum, the largest angel investor network in North America with 400 members in 13 chapters. Ken is a serial entrepreneur with over 30 years experience in the software industry.

 

 

Chris ShipleyChris Shipley,
Executive Editor of DEMO Conferences
and co-Founder of Guidewire Group

Chris Shipley is perhaps best known as the Executive Producer of the DEMO Conferences, the technology industry's premier place to launch new information technology, product, or service. She meets each year with about 500 companies as they are developing and bringing new products to market in order to help them position the technology in the marketplace. Since 1996, she has used DEMO to introduce ideas such as Web-based software (ASP Services), application servers, device computing, social agents and user interfaces, and much more.

In the Spring of 2004, Chris co-founded Guidewire Group, a technology research firm focused exclusively on emerging companies and markets. As lead analyst and editorial director, she develops the company's research methodologies and guide its editorial products

Chris Shipley has covered personal technology for more than 20 years, and has garnered the reputation as an industry pundit. She looks at technology not with an engineer's zeal for elegant code, but with a human eye for usefulness, practical advancement, and social change. She will bring her insight and vision in technical and social matters to moderate the panel.
